山下財宝Yamashita Treasureを追って フィリピン、バギオにてインタビューを敢行した
2026年5月、いつもならそんなに暑くないのだが、なぜかバギオは猛暑
立っているだけで汗が噴き出してくるのだが、せっかく来たので撮影開始した。
ここバギオは、マニラから車で5時間ほどの高原。
将軍、山下奉文がアメリカ軍に追われ、敗走する形で北上したのだが、
ここバギオで立て直しを行い、アメリカ軍を迎えた地である。
ヤマシタトレジャーには必ず付いてくる現場である。
きっかけとなった「ゴールデンプッタ」が発見されたからだ。

ゴールデン・ブッダ事件（1971年） ***************************
数ある山下財宝の伝説の中で、最も有名で大規模なスキャンダルとなったのが
この事件。
・発見:
1971年、フィリピンのバギオ市で錠前師のロジャー・ロハスが、
旧日本軍の地下トンネルで純金製の大きな仏像（ゴールデン・ブッダ）や
大量の金塊を発見しました。
・強奪:
この噂を聞きつけた当時のフェルディナンド・マルコス大統領（当時）の
部隊がロハスの家を急襲し、財宝を強奪したとされています。
・すり替えと裁判
その後、仏像は全くの別物にすり替えられて返還され、
ロハスは巨額の賠償を求めてマルコス夫妻を提訴し、
長期にわたる国際的な裁判闘争に発展しました。

この事件は本になり出版されたため、世界のトレジャーハンターから
注目されることとなった。
もちろん、フィリピン国内でも話題となり、ヤマシタトレジャーは
皆が知ることとなった。
さて、戦後80年経ったのだが、バギオの人たちは山下奉文のことを知っているか、
ヤマシタトレジャーが出たらどうするか、など街頭インタビューを
行い、現在の心境に迫ることとしたのだ。
場所は、バギオの隣町、トリニダットの市場である。
山下奉文の写真をフリップにして聞いて回った。*日本で作って持ち込みました*
「知ってヤマシタゼネラルだろ」
「ヤマシタトレジャーなら、ブギアスに行った方が良い」
「いや、知りない」
「興味がない」
など知ってる、知らないの割合は、知らないが若干多い感じだった。
ヤマシタトレジャーが出たらどうする、という質問には。
「家を買う」
「車を買う」という方が多かったが、感動したのは、、、
「必要なものを買ったら、あとは寄付する。
フィリピンは貧しい、貧しい人を救うためシェアする」という声も多数いたのだ
そうなのだ。
フィリピンは、まだまだ貧しい。
だから、80年もの間、ヤマシタトレジャーが伝説として語り継がれているのだ。
私が日本のイチゴをフィリピンで育てているのも、救済の一環なのである。

In May 2026, Baguio was experiencing a heatwave, even though it's usually not that hot.
Sweat was pouring out just from standing there, but since I had come all this way, I started filming.
Baguio is a plateau about a five-hour drive from Manila.
General Yamashita Tomoyuki, pursued by the American army, fled north in defeat, but it was here in Baguio that he regrouped and welcomed the American forces.
This is a site that always accompanies Yamashita Treasure.
This is because the "Golden Buddha," which was the catalyst for the story, was discovered here.

The Golden Buddha Incident (1971) ***************************
Among the many legends of Yamashita's treasure, this incident became the most famous and largest scandal.
* Discovery:
In 1971, in Baguio City, Philippines, locksmith Roger Rojas discovered a large pure gold Buddha statue (Golden Buddha) and a large quantity of gold bars in an underground tunnel of the former Japanese army.
* Theft:
Hearing rumors of this, then-President Ferdinand Marcos's troops raided Rojas's home and allegedly stole the treasure.
* Substitution and Lawsuit:
The Buddha statue was later replaced with a completely different one and returned. Rojas sued the Marcos couple for a huge sum of money, leading to a long and drawn-out international legal battle.

This incident was published as a book, attracting attention from treasure hunters worldwide.
Of course, it also became a topic of conversation in the Philippines, and Yamashita Treasure became widely known.
Now, 80 years after the war, we decided to conduct street interviews in Baguio to find out if the people knew about Tomoyuki Yamashita, and what they would do if a Yamashita treasure were discovered.
The location was a market in Trinidad, a town next to Baguio.
We went around asking people using flip charts with a picture of Tomoyuki Yamashita.
*We made these in Japan and brought them with us.
"I know him, he's General."
"If you want a Yamashita treasure, you should go to Bugias."
"No, I don't know him."
"I'm not interested."
The ratio of people who knew him to those who didn't was slightly higher for those who didn't.
To the question of what they would do if a Yamashita treasure were discovered:
"I'd buy a house."
"I'd buy a car."
However, many also said, "I'd buy what I needed, and then donate the rest.
The Philippines is poor, so I'd share to help the poor."
That's right.
The Philippines is still poor.
That's why Yamashita Treasure has been passed down as a legend for 80 years.
My growing Japanese strawberries in the Philippines is also part of this rescue effort.
